London CRN has a wealth of expertise and experience in providing onsultancy services on sustainable waste management.


securing funding

London CRN provided support to 15 successful bids to the Community Recycling and Economic Development (CRED) Programme, provisionally bringing in a total of £3.4 million to London.

In addition, London CRN assisted 12 successful bids to the London Recycling Fund, with a combined value of £5.3 million.


increasing recycling
London Borough of Hackney was one of the poorest performing local authorities in London, with a recycling rate of just 2.6 percent in 2002. London CRN provided a range of consultancy work, including data modelling of its existing and potential kerbside participation.
In 2004, the borough showed a recycling rate of 10.2 percent, which represents a nearly four-fold increase.

developing partnerships

Tower Hamlets Community Recycling Consortium received support from London CRN in its development and contract negotiation. This innovative estates recycling scheme was awarded a contract worth £1.1 million by LB Tower Hamlets in September 2003 to carry out the UK’s first large scale door-to-door recycling service on estates.


providing training

London CRN runs a wide range of training events on sustainable waste management issues. Topics have included:

Data modelling - A full day event for local authority officers on the uses and applications of data modelling to an overall waste management strategy.

WEEE directive - An evening seminar updating local authority officers and members of the latest developments in the directive’s transposition into law.

Social Enterprise Procurement - Presentations from two local authorities on what their boroughs are doing to include social enterprises in the procurement process.

Composting - An evening seminar on the Animal By-Products Regulations, and a workshop session providing insight into operational best practice.
