LCRN Blog: Recycling in Britain: the Tonight Show report
This Monday the Tonight Show aired a report on recycling in Britain. Andy Moore, coordinator of CRN UK and the Campaign for Real Recycling, reminded Local Authorities in this programme of their duty of care to ensure that the efforts of their residents to recycle do not instead go to waste.
The programme demonstrated that comingled collections - where everything to be recycled is put into one bag - are more likely to end up in a dump than being recycled.
LCRN did a little background research into the waste collections of the 33 Local Authorities in London and discovered that of these only 10 have source-separated collections (where recyclates are separated by type). 18 Local Authorities in London have comingled collections. Over half of the total. Which, if you consider the implications of this report, does not suggest London is taking care of its resources as well as it should be.
then what of the other 5
then what of the other 5 LA's - do they have something in between co-mingled and source separated or no recycling at all?
