LCRN Blog: Mayor's Green Procurement Code Awards
Into its second year and the Mayor's Green Procurement Code, delivered by London Remade, is going from strength to strength. Monday night was the Awards ceremony 2008, where the organisations that had advanced their policy and procurement towards more environmental standards were honoured.
Three organisations have achieved the Gold standard:
- London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
- London Fire Brigade
- Transport for London
Of the 33 organisations that achieved Silver and Bronze, 6 are members of our Network:
- BioRegional Development Group
- LB Hackney
- London Remade
- Proper Oils
- The Environment Trust
- LB Croydon
and Calverts, our co-operative printers of choice also achieved silver.
The keynote speaker was Simon Sperryn, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, who spoke eloquently of the interest and commitment to sustainble procurement among the Institute's members. Graham Randles, who heads up the Green Procurement Code team explained the achievements already made, which includes over 70,000 tonnes diverted from landfill by participating organisations. An awesome figure!
