facts

Londoners produce 3.4 million tonnes of rubbish a year, which is enough to:

  • fill Canary Wharf tower every 10 days, or
  • fill an Olympic sized swimming pool every hour

At the moment just over 11 per cent of Londoners’ rubbish is recycled…but up to 80% of the rubbish from an average household can be reused, recycled or composted.

It doesn’t have to be difficult! You can take small simple steps to reduce or recycle your rubbish.

Use our members directory to help you find community groups near you that will be able to:

  • recycle your old furniture, clothes or computer
  • help you start composting your garden and kitchen waste
  • locate a nappy laundry
  • find a charity shop
  • start your office recycling
  • and much much more!

For more information about the services provided by your local authority please visit their website and search using the term 'recycling service' or 'waste'.

Alternatively, find your nearest recycling bank through the 'Recycle More' website www.recycle-more.co.uk
