This section contains useful links to websites that have information about how to reduce, compost, reuse and recycling.


It doesn’t have to be difficult! You can take small simple steps to reduce or recycle your rubbish:

  • Shop locally – buy fresh food, and only what you need
  • Use both sides of the paper (photocopying/printing)
  • Buy items with less packaging (that can be recycled)
  • Buy in bulk if possible
  • Refuse carrier bags at the checkout
  • Stop unwanted direct mail on 0845 703 4599 or visit www.mpsonline.org.uk.
  • If you don’t need it – don’t get it!

routinely reuse and recycle…

  • Recycle your paper, magazines, cardboard, glass, tin cans and plastic using banks (find the nearest at www.recycle-more.co.uk)
  • Check with your local reuse and recycling centre what items they will take and bring it regularly.
  • Take a reusable bag with you to the supermarket
  • Get a wormery or compost bin for your garden and green kitchen waste (call a Master Composter for advice compost@lcrn.org.uk or call 020 7324 4690)
  • Take unwanted clothes and textiles to a charity shop
  • Donate furniture, IT and other electronic goods to your local community recycler (some charity shops accept these too) – or sell it on e-bay!
  • Use real nappies – call the nappy line on 01983 401 959 
  • Reuse jars and tubs for storage
  • Use rechargeable batteries
  • Buy recycled and refillable goods
